E' stato impegnativo, serio, per nulla reale, ma in qualche modo, "Hawaii Five-0" è diventato parte indelebile di questo ambiente tropicale.

Dal 1968 al 1980, ha dominato il genere delle serie TV poliziesche anche se ha offerto una visione dell'isola che non è mai stata vicina alla realtà, ma è stato sempre divertente da vedere. Grazie all'esposizione che il drama della CBS ha dato loro, gli abitanti delle Hawaii hanno mostrato la loro differenza etnica. Se i dialoghi erano un pò artificiali o i discorsi travisati, nessuno sembra ricordarlo.
Domani, la CBS pianifica di combattere la nostalgia e iniziare a filmare il pilota del moderno remake di "Five-0". Potrebbe essere un compito scoraggiante --- molto è cambiato nei 30 anni trascorsi dalla fine della serie.


Diamo un'occhiata all'"Hawaii Five-0" dell'era passata e chiediamo a registi, commentatori e a un detective ritiratosi di visionare una versione aggiornata di città, polizia, auto, abiti e cultura della serie di successo.


CITY LIGHTS

PRIMA: La sequenza iniziale originale di "Hawai Five-0" offriva l'idea di un luogo che era contro gli stereotipi, ma probabilmente restava esotica per i telespettatori di ogni dove tranne del luogo.

Nemmeno dopo una decade da quando la serie è iniziata, le Hawaii subiscono un cambiamento verso un moderno stato tropicale. Si dotano di uno skyline [profilo dei grattacieli e palazzi della città contro l'orizzonte n.d.t.], un senso d'innocenza e una corrente sotterranea di pericolo.

DOPO: Brett Wagner, il regista che scrisse e diresse l'acclamato corto "Chief", ha detto che un'introduzione aggiornata --- una che è più veloce ma semplice --- potrebbe funzionare meglio per la CBS.


"Hawai Five-0" è molto più inerente all'urbana Honolulu che ai turisti abbigliati di ghirlande o di panorami costieri," ha detto. "Poche belle riprese regoleranno il set, ma vorrei soprattutto focalizzarmi sulle persone --- sullo spettro di volti e stili che definiscono la cultura della strada di quest'isola.

"Renderla reale, renderla audace; renderla interessante. Nulla che assomigli ad un viaggio [turistico]. Questo show dev'essere sulle "Hawaii" che i suoi abitanti non hanno visto."

E Wagner non vuole armeggiare con la colonna sonora di "Hawaii Five-0", che ha descritto come una delle migliori nella storia della TV.

"Non servono suoni techno o hip hop o null'altro," ha detto. "Voglio ingaggiare Jack White dei White Stripes per aggiornare il sound giusto un pò, ma mantendendolo rurale e primitivo."


"ANNOTALO DANNO"

PRIMA : Il detective Steve McGarrett è stato il volto stoico di "Hawaii Five-0", un poliziotto così quadrato, faceva tutto attraverso il manuale, a partire dal nodo della sua cravatta.

"Ma i veri poliziotti di Honolulu ridacchiano al suo linguaggio del corpo e al modo in cui lui empaticamente esponeva l'ovvio," ha detto Gary Dias, un detective in pensione del Dipartimento di Polizia di Honolulu e co-autore di tre libri sul crimine locale.

"Sembrava rigido e lievemente comico," ha detto. "Sembrava che McGarrett non fosse alle isole Hawaii. Sembrava più come se fosse in un luogo molto fomale. Molto più come l'F.B.I. a Washington D.C.. che in un'unità hawaiana".


DOPO: "I moderni combattenti del crimine necessitano di un analisi della realtà in ogni momento," dice Dias, la cui carrirera di 27 anni include omicidi, investigazioni scientifiche, rapine e negoziazioni d'ostaggi. Darebbe a McGarrett un sofisticato laboratorio anticrimine --- potete dire C.S.I. Honolulu? --- ma trovarlo gli da preoccupazioni.

PRIMA : McGarrett guidava una nera, squadrata Mercury. Non era sexy come la Ferrari di Don Johnson in "Miami Vice", ma era forzuta, e il suo motore a 345cavalli trasportava molti più muscoli, tant'è che i copertoni dell'auto stridevano anche nella sabbia.

DOPO : L'odierno McGarrett necessita di un mezzo moderno, ma cosa scegliere: forma o funzionalità? In questi giorni, molti poliziotti guidano i SUV. Questi possono andare abbastanza veloci, ma entrarci appare lento.

Piuttosto, Danny Luis, un supervisore del Ron's Performance Center, suggerisce la Chevrolet Camaro 2010. E' una bestia sexy, con 426 cavalli e tecnologia Bluetooth.

"Appare veloce" dice Luis. "E penso che presto ci saranno poliziotti nella vita reale che la guideranno. Non possono usare una Corvette. Una Corvette può essere troppo poco."


UOMO VESTITO ATTILLATO

PRIMA : Se l'unità "Five-0" sembrava un pò formale, prendetevela con l'abbigliamento. Nel periodo in cui il il fashion poliestere del 1970 invitava gli uomini a vestirsi con agio e comodità nella mente, McGarrett e il suo gruppo anti-crimine spesso inseguivano i cattivi ragazzi con i colletti abbottonati al collo.

Ovviamente, McGarrett a volte indulgeva in lunghe camicie hawaiaine, colori chiari, ampi colletti e zampe d'elefante. Era agghindato di giorno, anche quando indossava una ghirlanda di garofani.

DOPO : "L'abbigliamento Aloha tempo fa diventò l'uniforme scelta praticamente da tutti quelli che lavoravano professionalmente nelle Hawaii," dice Andrew Reilly, un professore assistente al Programma di Produzione di Design e Merchandising dell'University of Hawai'i-Mānoa. "Indossate una camicia Aloha con un disegno classico insieme a jeans o khaki e McGarrett avrà il suo stile."

"Questo è ciò che un tipico poliziotto vorrebbe indossare," dice Reilly. "In altri luoghi lo vorrei col soprabito o in giacca, ma non si vede molta gente indossare giacche qui, e non penso possa essere confortevole o necessario. Una corte è l'unico luogo in cui vedi un abito."

KONO E' UNA DONNA

PRIMA : Nessuno degli attori principali del cast originale apparteneva al gentil sesso. Le donne nel 1970 erano vittime in attesa di essere salvate da McGarrett.

E nonostante il suo bell'aspetto (e capelli perfetti), McGarrett non è mai apparso interessato ad una storia d'amore.

DOPO : "I drama polizieschi televisivi si sono evoluti immensamente da "Hawaii Five-0" -- e l'uguaglianza dei sessi è la norma," dice Robert Thompson, il direttore fondatore del Bleier Center per la Televisione e Cultura Popolare alla Syracuse University.

Thompson si aspetta che molte donne lotteranno contro il crimine accanto a McGarrett, e effetivamente, due dei principali attori del cast sono donne, tra cui Grace Park che interpreta Kono. Questo ruolo era originariamente interpretato dall'ex beachboy Zulu.

Spesso il detective si trova ad avere a che fare con il mondo dello spionaggio: in tali casi incrocia spesso il suo acerrimo nemico Wo Fat, agente segreto cinese.

Ciao a tutti...

Beh, come al solito ho pensato di scrivere a voi tutti e, come al solito, non sono riuscito a farlo. Prima del Ringraziamento ...durante il Ringraziamento .... Dopo il Ringraziamento! Ma oggi, ho pensato fosse meglio farlo...

Molti di voi probabilmente già sanno, perché voi ragazzi sapete cosa sta succedendo nella mia vita prima di me, ma oggi mi è stato comunicato che avrebbe presto concluso Three Rivers.

Ad essere onesti non potevo credere alle mie orecchie.

Moonlight è stato cancellato dopo di che ho avuto bisogno di andare via e chiarirmi per un po '. Ero titubante ad impegnarmi in un altro spettacolo , anche quando Three Rivers è stato proposto, ma ho capito subito l'importanza di questa storia e quanto lo sarebbe stata. Questa è la storia di tante persone diverse in tutto il mondo che in qualche modo sono stati interessati dalla donazione di organi e dalla medicina dei trapianti. [Continua...]

14. Alex O'Loughlin as Mich St. John in Moonlight

You know, once in awhile it's nice to encounter a vampire who does something truly productive with his super strength, years of knowledge, and stunning good looks. Mick St. John is one such vampire. Instead of sitting around being all, "Oh man, it sucks that I love blood and have to stay young and beautiful forever," he made the choice to go out and seek redemption through helping the helpless, err, I know what you're thinking. This is sounding a lot like another vampire we all know and love who is a P.I. and helps the helpless for redemptive purposes. That other vampire aside, Mick's desire to do what's right, coupled with his ability to brood like nobody's business, makes him a very attractive undead American to watch.

8. Jason Dohring as Josef Kostan in Moonlight

He might not have been the title character in Moonlight , but Jason Dohring playing good vampire Josef Kostan made quite the impression on me. Perhaps (read: certainly) this stems from my longtime love of the tragically canceled television show Veronica Mars and, consequently, the character of Logan Echolls (played by Jason Dohring). However, despite this admittedly blinding obsession, I think my choice stands strong. In Moonlight , Dohring plays a 400-year old vampire with remarkable ease and depth. Strutting around in expensive suits, living in luxurious mansions, and taking his pick of any girl he wants, Josef is probably the envy of most guys. And who can blame them? In the show, he comes off as suave, smart, and wonderfully sexy, so much so that he has a gaggle of girls just lining up to give him their blood. And guys, I think we can all agree that there's something to be said about a vampire who gets his blood handed to him not through hypnotic vampire tricks or hunting, but through money and good looks.

Since some people have stated that they wish that he had been given a spot in NCIS: LA, what are your thoughts on him being a part of the alleged Criminal Minds spin-off if Three Rivers doesn't last? Matt Roush: Very true that just because Alex O’Loughlin played a guest villain (memorably) on Criminal Minds wouldn’t preclude him from taking a lead role in a spin-off. There’s precedent for that. Before Jerry Orbach became the most beloved (and still missed) member of the Law & Order franchise, he had guest-starred on the series a year earlier as a defense lawyer. But my understanding is that if CBS does greenlight a Minds spin-off, it’s likely to be built around a female lead character. It’s hardly a surprise that such a prospect is not high on my list of shows I’d most love to see next season, but I don’t see how it could possibly be worse than the mothership.

Hi everybody.
Well it certainly has been a minute since I last wrote you all, but I am glad to say that it's because I literally have not stopped working since we last spoke. I finished The Backup Plan a few days ago and flew straight back to LA to start production on Three Rivers, which is where I am now.

The film experence was wonderful! We were very lucky to have the team of producers & the director that we had and I would work with them all again tomorrow! It was nothing but positive.

Our director and leader, Alan Poul was as good as you can get. Very intelligent, funny, sensative to everyone's needs and a true visionary. I think we might just have a decent little film on our hands! ;)

Many of you have sent me messages full of questions about Jennifer and how I found working with her, and I appreciate your enthusiasm.
Jennifer is a very private person and I respect that, so what I will tell you is that she is all the good things you could possibly imagine her to be. Funny, smart, generous, always prepared, very professional, always punctual... and of course, beautiful.

Thank you all so much for the constant support. It can be difficult to reach you all personally and individually, but none of your love and hard work ever goes unnoticed or unappreciated. It is something in my life that helps me find the energy I don't always think I have, to get through another long work day and stay inspired. Without you all it would be kind of pointless so, again, thank you.

What Makes Him So Sexy: We're a sucker for actors who play vampires, and Alex is no exception. That he's filled with smoldering desires he couldn't bring himself to fulfill made us only want his Moonlight character more. We can't help feel like some of that danger spills into real life, where Alex sports six tattoos including a tramp stamp across his lower back. Off-screen, Alex is an absolute gentleman who doesn't comment on past loves or the status of his relationships. Dangerous and caring? Delish.

LoveStage: Possibly Taken. O'Loughlin has been dating Aussie actress/singer Holly Valance for four years, but there are reports that the two have separated.

There was some serious block voting going on when it came to this guy, but, to be fair, fans of all shows were equally entitled to block vote. Who are we to censure votes just because Moonlight fans got their act together and Blood Ties fans didn’t? Besides, think through the logic: if fans are avid enough to want to mobilize a voting campaign, what does that say about the guy they’re voting for? That he’s popular, basically. Ipso facto, he’s earned his place in the top 10, fair and square (though we’re glad he didn’t beat Christopher Lee).

Mick St. John is private investigator in modern-day Los Angeles who also just happens to be a vampire. (Hey, maybe he should form some kind of union with Angel; the Vampire Private Investigators Regulatory Executive – or VamPIRE.) He was sired around 60 years ago by his wife, Coraline, on his wedding day, which is one Hell of a way of consummating a marriage. But he’s not really confortable with the traditional vampire lifestyle and refuses to hunt women, children or innocents, and rejects the idea of treating humanity as just a quick snack.

After his disastrous nuptials, he’s understandably not keen on pursuing any romantic avenues for a while, but things change when he “bumps into” internet reporter Beth Turner. Bumps into in inverted commas, because he’s actually been stalking her since she was five, when he rescued her from his ex-wife… but let’s not go there. It’s all a bit creepy.

Why’s he so popular? The looks, the charm, the conflicted nature. It’s like all the things that make vampires sexy have been distilled into one character. Which reminds us of another character… called Angel. Is it any coincidence that Angel co-creator David Greenwalt (in that he both co-created the show Angel and indeed the character Angel back in the early days of Buffy) was also one of the original showrunners on Moonlight? Short answer – no.
